With at least 700 different species of ants in just the United States, controlling them can be quite difficult and pretty tricky, especially if they aren’t your specialty.
Ants can enter through the tiniest of cracks and are seeking water and sweet or protein based food substances.
They leave an invisible chemical trail containing pheromones so that other ants can follow and locate the food source. And they can nest just about anywhere and everywhere, in and around your house. An ant nest between the insulation and flooring in a crawlspace is one common spot, they also will nest in walls, lawns, stumps, and even under the homes’ foundation just to name a few.
An ant’s colony can be substantially large in size and in the hundreds of thousands. They can move the whole colony very quickly when threatened and a colony has a pretty long lifespan with worker ants living approximately seven years and the queen living up to 15!
Identification, nest location and the correct pesticides are crucial for lasting and effective ant control. Most DIY ant control is ultimately ineffective as it kills only the ants you see and it doesn’t account for different kinds of infestation requiring different kinds of treatments.
